TOUR OF OUR TRAINING CENTER

WHAT WE OFFER
The U.S. Martial Arts Training Center is a Diverse School of Learning for Children, Teens and Adults. Offering a unique children’s curriculum for ages ten and under and a superior training program for teens and adults. The USMATC has been a family friendly environment for empowering our community for over thirty years. U.S. Martial Arts Training Center offers Taekwondo, Judo, Self-Defense and Safety Awareness Training.

TAEKWONDO
Taekwondo is a Korean style of martial arts emphasizing kicks, punches, and blocks. In Korean, 'tae' means to “strike or break with foot”; 'kwon' means “to strike or break with with fist”; and 'do' means “way”, “method”, or “art”. Loosely translated, Taekwondo reads “the art of the foot and fist.” Strikes with the leg are particularly emphasized because the leg is the longest and strongest weapon (or tool) that a martial artist has. Taekwondo excels at developing students in important physical skills (strength, speed, balance, stamina, and flexibility) and mental skills (discipline, patience, etiquette, respect, and self-confidence).

JUDO PROGRAM
Judo is a Japanese style of martial arts based on the traditional Ju-Jitsu fighting and self-defense techniques of Japan. Movements involve many different throwing and grappling techniques which include the use of pin-downs on the mat, chokes, arm bars, and escapes. Application of techniques combine timing, balance and off-balancing, direction of movement, and momentum with the use of leverage to achieve greater power against an opponent or (in a self defense situation) an attacker. Judo has been the foundation for numerous military/police combative and defense tactics around the world.

WOMEN'S ONLY TAEKWONDO AND HAPKIDO
The women’s program was developed for those who prefer to train with other women. This enables us to provide an atmosphere that is comfortable for all participants. Extra emphasis on self-defense and safety awareness is provided in this program. This class is designed and taught by Master Rhonda Payne.
*Currently we are combining our classes and offering co-ed only at this time.

SENSEI
JAN BONNER
Shichidan in Judo (7th Dan)
Program Director - Judo
Sensei Jan Bonner began her involvement in Judo over 40 years ago with Herb Bellamy, Head Coach of the Lackland AFB Judo Club. Coach Bonner is a lifetime member of both United States Judo Association and the United States Martial Arts Association formerly under the direction of Phillip S. Porter, 10th Dan. Coach Bonner received her instructor certification at the National Judo Institute (NJI), in Colorado Springs, CO.
Coach Bonner was responsible for the resurgence of Judo in San Antonio. After many years of there being no clubs available in San Antonio, Coach Bonner started a grassroots program at Lackland AFB. Not only was she the first female to open a Judo Club in San Antonio, she was the first female to host a Judo Tournament in Texas.
Having been a competitor, coach and referee, Coach Bonner's experience and passion for Judo bring invaluable knowledge and mentor-ship to the program. Her approach to teaching and methodology enables everyone to enjoy the far reaching benefits of Judo without regard to one's athletic abilities.
Coach Bonner developed our Instructor Certification Program and implemented the Leadership Development within our training center that we use today. Our S.T.A.T. (Safety Through Awareness Training) Program was developed in collaboration with Master Payne.
